Topanga New Times

Zeke Reed grew up in Topanga and found his spiritual and creative grounding in the canyon at a young age. Now 26, he is committed to sharing the canyon’s magic with Los Angeles’ independent music community through his artist interview series, Topanga Sessions, and his mountain-top recording studio, “The Shed.”

THIs Song is Sick

Trippy sci-fi electro-indie music is the latest genre we didn’t know we needed until now.

Self-described “psychedelic space disco,” Zeke Reed’s solo project Friends of leans into this aesthetic on his new track “Ground Control”. In addition to the retro-inspired alien abduction visuals for both the song and the artist, the bubbling synth and rocket effects that wash over the track shoot us straight into the galaxy.

Voyage LA

Zeke, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and recovering comedic improviser. When I’m not creating or performing music, I work at USC teaching a journalism class and at a nonprofit in South LA called A Place Called Home where I give music lessons. I have a passion for music, education and community-building, and a dual degree in politics and neuroscience from the University of Virginia.
